Energy Management: Projects |
- Revision of Renewable Energy White Paper (2010) – AGAMA Energy was appointed as the lead consultant by the World Bank-funded Renewable Energy Market Transformation project (REMT) on behalf of the Department of Energy to revise the Renewable Energy White Paper.
- Finalisation of Project Document for the Energy and Environment Partnership (EEP) Programme with Southern and East Africa (2009) – AGAMA Energy assisted the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland to finalise the project document for the EEP- S&EA programme.
- Dorbyl Marine Energy Audit (2009) – AGAMA Energy was contracted by Kayad Engineering to carry out an energy audit of the Dorbyl Marine heavy engineering operation in the Cape Town harbour
- THDev Energy Audit and Carbon Inventory (2009) – AGAMA Energy was contracted to carry out an energy audit and develop a carbon emissions inventory of the THDev operation and activities.
- Sustainable energy strategy for Tongaat Hulett Development (2008) – the development of a strategy for more sustainable energy utilisation for THDev. AGAMA Energy assisted THDev to establish a Sustainable Energy Team and begin implementing a strategy.
- IEA Global Renewable Energy Markets and Policies Programme (2008) – assessment of the status of the RE markets in South Africa and prospects for pricing of RE generation for the International Energy Agency.
- Energy audit of the Presidency at Tuynhuys and the President’s and Deputy President’s residence (2008) – Contracted by the DPW, AGAMA Energy completed a thorough energy audit of Tuynhuys and the Good Hope Theatre in the Presidency precinct of Parliament as well as the residences of the president and deputy president at the Groote Schuur estate. The audit covered the existing energy uses and contained recommendations for a minimum of 10% reductions in energy consumption and additional improvements.
- A programmatic approach for rural electrification using solar PV in Angola (2005) – lead consultant for the development of a national plan for electricity services provision with a budget of over USD 220 million over 15 years (say between 2006 – 2021) for a total of approximately 20,000 public facilities in 1,300 ‘solar villages’ throughout Angola. This programme for public facilities represents an installed capacity of approximately 11 MWp out of a potential market size of between 20 to 30 MWp for solar PV systems.
- Green Funding Sources and Mechanisms for the South African Wind Energy Project (2004) – AGAMA Energy was sub-contracted to undertake the study for the UNDP/GEF-funded SAWEP for the DME. The study assessed the market for Green Power in South Africa and the funding and financing mechanisms for 50 MW of wind energy development in South Africa. Aspects of the study were incorporated into the PPA for the Darling Wind Farm.
- Economic and financial calculations and modelling for the renewable energy strategy formulation (2003) – macro-economic modelling of the RE target in the White Paper on RE Policy for the DME. AGAMA Energy provided the inputs and analysis for the opportunity for domestic and commercial scale solar water heating in South Africa.
- Employment Potential of Renewable Energy in South Africa (2003) – AGAMA Energy was contracted by the Sustainable Energy and Climate Change Project of Earthlife Africa (SECCP) to assess the potential and nature of employment opportunities in the RE sector.
- Baseline study on solar energy in South Africa (2002) – the assessment and analysis of the market opportunities and sector development for solar energy in South Africa for the Department of Minerals and Energy (DME). AGAMA Energy undertook the solar photovoltaic aspects and Solar Engineering Services addressed the solar water heating opportunities.
- Green Power for the WSSD (2002) – AGAMA Energy piloted the supply of Green Power for two main venues of the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002. This project provided 854 MWh of Green Power from seven different renewable energy producers and required the co-operation and participation of NERSA, DME and City Power.
- Promotion and Macro-Economic Analysis of Solar Water Heating in Namibia (2001) – the assessment and analysis of the basis for a realistic strategy for the promotion of SWH systems in Namibia. The project was commissioned by the Ministry of Mines and Energy and was funded by DANCED.
- Rural electricity distribution Masterplan for Namibia (2000) – technical consultant on the off-grid planning and financial analysis for a GIS-based 20 year national electricity distributioin masterplan.
